Born This Way

I mulled long and hard about posting on this topic, but after watching Google Goes Gaga yesterday, I felt that it would be wrong for me not to.

I've always had self-image issues. One of the reasons why I started this blog was to showcase my love for my unconventional body. I wanted to share my love for fashion and dressing up. I wanted to show people that it didn't matter what shape one had, one can still look gorgeous. Style is all about creativity and confidence.

While I fully believe in that, I still whine about parts of me that I can't seem to change, no matter how hard I try. I'm talking about my tummy and my full thighs. And though I rarely take inspiration from music, hearing Gaga talk in her interview truly awakened something in me. What can I say? I am a romantic, by heart. I get easily duped by beautiful words and mesmerizing voices.

So, here is an outfit that I wouldn't have posted if I hadn't heard Gaga.

Yesterday, I would have taken one look at these pictures and deleted them from my camera. But today, I present to you my shapely thunder thighs that really make my ankles look extremely delicate. Thanks, Gaga.

P.S. I am in the process of writing my last chapter of my thesis and rewriting all other chapters. If I don't get back to you as promptly as I used to (I was prompt?), I apologize. I'll catch up during the weekend.

  2. I love it! You look fantastic. One thing I've learned through counseling others is we all (including those who are size 2) have issues with our bodies. We are really much more critical on ourselves than need be.Congrats on being on the last chapter!

I started my blog for the exact same reasons but lately I have been thinking am I even THAT fashionable. Who the heck am I to be arrogant enough to think others would admire me or my clothing!! Can you say NARCISSISM at its finest!! Thank you so much for sharing sweetie and I know your thesis is going to be GREAT!! Kiah

  8. Laura!!! Fashion's about working with what you've got :) I'm so happy that you've posted this, because I'm totally guilty too. Of deleting or scrapping photos that I'm unhappy with. This is incredibly inspiring and you look lovely. I'm so jealous too, because I've been looking for pretty shoes like you've got :)

  11. I'm glad you posted them. Your outfit is cute, and I like seeing things on real people. I have thighs, and I carry my weight on my tummy. But, it's not going to stop me from loving myself.

  22. We're all our own worst critics, aren't we? You're so right though, confidence is key. And to risk sounding cliche (but not really caring), we're all beautiful in a myriad of ways. Life is too short to get caught up in wishing ourselves different from what we are. Bravo to you for this post! Oh, and those jeans + those clogs = awesome!

Congrats on nearing the end of your thesis!

  23. Awww! That's great! Funny how, as crazy as Gaga is, the things she puts out are actually meaningful. I'm glad you're slowly accepting your thighs, because they are you, and nothing could be better than you.

  25. so brave of you. you are gorgeous and embracing this radiates even more beauty. gaga inpsires these sorts of things... I hate when magazines sepreate clothes by pear appple and whatever fruit shaped body. wear what you want!

  26. Amazing post. Thanks for sharing! And you look fabulous. I hate how our society has set such high standards for what beauty is by using photoshop and unusually thin models, when people come in all shapes and sizes.

And I LOVE your shoes. I have the same ones in the tan color, but I've noticed that the back straps that go over my heels tend to get really loose, are yours like that too?
