Outfit # 37 of my 6-Month Challenge

Since I was so busy running around yesterday, I didn't get a chance to take outfit photos until late at night when I dropped off some dinner for my husband who was working late. Since we were both tired and very unenthusiastic to do anything but gorge ourselves on chicken panang curry and pumpkin dark chocolate cookies (recipe to follow sometime this week!), we took these pictures right in the break room. And you're seeing me in all my industrial lighting glory. Not very flattering, but oh well.

It was oddly warm today, so I didn't need to wear boots or even tights, for that matter. Rain or shine, however, I am still needing my specs, especially in outfit photos because I have an industrial-sized zit wreaking havoc on my poor face. When I started writing my thesis back in January, I broke out like crazy, and no matter what I did or slathered on my face, the acne wouldn't go away. After months and months of trying out regimens and getting facials done, my skin is slowly on the mend. My big problem right now are scars from zits past. What products have you used that worked?

ps. I am working on a tutorial for galaxy nails, so stay tuned!

  1. Very cute dress and how cool that you hemmed it yourself!
I broke out for years and years. My skin sorta calmed down on its own but Cetaphil has been great - it's so simple and cleans well. I also drink a lot more water and wonder if that played a part (maybe?)
    Have a lovely day dear!

  2. Super cute outfit, I love the belt!

I've got acne scars on my cheeks too :( I find the best way to keep the breakouts under control is just with plain Clearasil from the supermarket! I even tried ProActive but it didn't work at all for me.

  3. I am a huge fan of cetaphil as well - I've been using that and witch hazel as an astringent every day for years and I swear by it.

  4. I'm not sure if it is because of the industrial lighting, but your hair looks really good in these pictures!

  7. I love that dress! Looks perfect with the belt. I have skin problems too, I use Clean & Clear mostly, I used to think by the time I was 25 my skin would be fine... apparently not :( I saw those cookies on Instagram, they looked delicious!

  8. I really love the dress! and the cookies sound delicious! Mmmmm.. I have the same skin problem.. I had bad acne scars and none of the over the counter stuff would work. So I ended up getting a facial peel.. WOW.. I have to say that did WONDERS to my skin.. I know it sounds scary but, it was amazing..

  9. I love your dress. So adorable.

I'm been extremely lucky. I very seldom get a pimple however, I do have oily skin. Which caused me so much trouble for years until I was lucky enough to stumble across Merle Norman Shine Control Hydrator. I use this daily and think it is probably my one must have skin care product. I'm amazed how it has for the most part stopped my oily skin problem.

  21. Industrial sized zit...I laughed!!!

There aren't any products I recommend. I used to have a problem with acne, but I just sort of grew out of it. Plus, I'm a guy, so I can grow a beard to cover it up!

    Nice work.

  27. I love the Mario Badescu skincare line and they do have a healing cream that's supposed to help with healing/fading scars. I've never tried it as I luckily don't have any (plenty of breakouts, just no lasting evidence) I do recommend their buffering lotion (which is really a liquid) if you still get breakouts at all. If anything does pop up, just a bit at night has it pretty much gone by the AM.

  28. LAURA...you are definitely on to something! I am going to be doing a post with today's jacket with....slacks! So you called it...just acted surprised when you see it..lol! I am excited to see the galaxy tutorial and zits...this 30 yr old chica still gets them. I layer on 3 acne medications...yes 3. Clinique on the spot treatment, oxy 10, and this 10% alpha lotion from my derm..... I wash my face w/a clarisonic too but honestly I didn't see the zit...

  29. Zits are no fun, but your dress is super cute.

  30. Man, I hate industrial-sized zits. My face is in pretty rough shape this week - bah. I don't have a remedy for acne scars, though I wish I did. I'm still trying to find something myself.

What a sweet outfit. I love how well the simple black accents look with this dress (which, I hope, is your Autumn staple. Look at those lovely jewel tones!).

  31. I realized, because of you, even with industrial lighting all photos can look good! Oh zits, why must you be part of our lives? Why can't you just go away or be really tiny? *sigh* I have a problem with zit scars too and haven't figured out anything to help them. Usually though, derma's are all the rage with peeling creams and stuff like that, I don't know maybe it'll work???

I love your dress Laura!!! Aren't thrift shops the best?? And even without a whole lot of accessories, you look really adorable the specs did it for me I think! Way to hide the zit! Maybe I should try it once :D
