super cute and warm bunny gloves I purchased in Chinatown!

SDC11026

I found these photos from a few weeks ago and remembered how I didn't like this outfit that much when I put it together. I was trying to figure out a way to wear the multi-strand necklace my mother got me for my birthday, and I thought I'd use it on a 50s housewife-inspired look as a substitute for pearls.

I'm still quite unsure how to wear it, so you know, help, please?

In the meantime, let me distract you with more delicious food pictures

  1. très joli ce collier, je le verrai bien sur un haut fluide (sans col ni artifice) uni afin de le mettre en valeur.
je lis ton blog depuis quelques temps et je voulais te feliciter
    bonne journée

  2. Maybe you could try wearing it with something a bit more plain on top, like a t-shirt with a higher neck? It looks good here too, but maybe needs to be made more of a focal point of the outfit?

Also, it may only be 8:30 a.m. but those curry pictures make me want Curry.. right now...

  3. the curry in a coconut is an amazing idea!

as to the necklace, i try and wear my busy/layered necklaces with either very low necklines or high necklines - crew or turtleneck. the collared shirt works very nicely but in my experience, i get the chokey feeling pretty quickly. obviously its still trying to be wintery outside, but the necklace would also work with just the zebra dress [which is adorable]

  4. Maybe with a bare neck the necklace would work? So it can just hang rather then getting caught up in a shirt perhaps?

  5. You could try it with a boat neck top or something like that. Even a simple crew neck dress could work too. You and your delicious food pictures!!

  6. I think that necklace would be great with a more monochromatic look - pair that baby with a plain black top and I think it would really stand out!

  7. I'm another vote for a higher neckline for that necklace. I have a few like that and anything with an open neck... well I'll just be blunt and say the necklace ends up in my boobs. I don't mind my chest, but don't really want a necklace jammed all in there. It feels uncomfortable and just invites people to stare.

  10. I love simple tops with that kind of statement necklaces. Even a plain black t -shirt might look awesome. Or then, a dress, but again, quite a simple one. How about, white top, that necklace, jeans, and a blazer? Would look amazing on you :) xoxo ♥

  11. I might try layering the necklace over s solid colored t-shirt.

  12. I agree with a lot of other folks - either high necklines, or bare ones. Or just a plain black Tee! I think that removes some of the "clutter" aspect.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hmm I would also say maybe try something with a higher neckline like maybe a plain tee so the emphasis is on the necklace. It looks lovely, I can't get enough of big statement necklaces at the moment! :)

  14. Hehe...love the distraction with the food photos. Personally, I think your beautiful necklace might be in competition with the print of your dress. You could still wear the black button-up, which really would highlight that fab necklace. Or, if you are still into the printed look in your outfit, just maybe a printed skirt/pants instead to balance out what's being seen in your overall look. Good luck!! =)

  15. Really don't think there's anything better than curry...made some homemade last week and devoured it, so tasty!

I'd wear your layered necklace with a pair of black skinnies, a bright coloured tee, a fun sweater belted over, and some funky heels. Just the right mix of spunky and edgy with feminine touches.

  16. I love the dress!! It's a funky housewife look! I'm just getting into accessories so I am no help for you there! But I do love curry!! Yummmm!

  17. I've got some longer multi-strand necklaces, I like them best with higher cut shirts. Like a plan crew-cut Tee. (Nothing with a collar). I think with 'statement' necklaces like this it's best to let them shine on their own and not have a lot going on on the top half of your body. Maybe a plain t-shirt with a bright skirt or pants.
I do love this dress though, the zebra print is so much fun.

  18. I think you wore it beautifully. You could also throw it on with a tee to spruce up a casual look.

  21. i love coconut fried rice! i love coconut anything, actually!

i would have worn the necklace just as you have over the collar. i think it's all about the neckline, too. i also like to wear these with crew neck sweaters (your oatmeal one?).

  22. hmmm i don't know. it looks nice to me! ;)
i usually don't have many outfit ideas, so i know i am not being much help here, but i do think the dress would look great by itself during the warmer months. ;)
you can wear the necklace as well and maybe put some light cardigan? ^-^

    the crab curry looks delish!
have a nice weekend, Laura. ;)

  23. Coconut fried rice! Why have I never tried or even heard of this before?! It's nearly midnight, and that food is making my mouth water.

I really love your outfit....the dress print and shape both are so very lovely on you! I like how you made use of the necklace kind of taking it in a vintage/retro direction. It would look awesome too with a black crew or boatneck tee and a-line skirt.

Have a gorgeous weekend darling gal! xx Marisa

  25. I like soft shell crabs and curry with rice! I like this outfit on you, not your usual girly style but I like it, you look feminine chic and classy. You did a nice job with the necklace. Great monochrome outfit. I also like how you did your hair with a big bow, that's cute!

  28. Oh my goodness, I love this zebra print dress! You found this thrifting?! I'm so jelly, I can never find dresses at any of the thrift stores near me. I love the bow in your hair too, how cute. I wear multi-strand necklaces a lot, I like them paired with a kind of basic t-shirt, maybe something a little more v-neck or something? Those bunny gloves are too cute, sheesh.

  33. Mmm mmm mmm now I'm craving a midnight snack! :) I would ty wearing the necklace with a flat sweater or top (when I mean flat, I mean not a blouse or button-up because then they don't hang properly) I love the dress on you-very cute!

  37. With the shirt under the dress and the necklace I feel like there's too much going on in the neck area possibly because of the collar on the shirt. I would opt for a different neckline I think that would give it a whole different look.

That food looks really good I don't think I've ever had coconut rice hmmm I must venture out and find it!

  38. I think the necklace would look good against something simpler. Either one pattern or one collar. If I had it, I'd wear it with a drapey black shirt.

  39. Ah, indian food is favorite! And nice necklace! It would look nice with just a t-shirt too!

  41. I think a crewneck or boat neck top would be great with the necklace. Maybe keep the base piece simple and wear a fun cardigan or sweater with it? Those curries look amazing, I definitely need more curry in my life :)

  45. Gahhh nom nom food! And those cute mittens -- so awesome! I love how you thought of your layered necklace like pearls -- I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years and I think it does work really well! I usually like my chainy/layered necklaces with kind of a boho-y look (I know that look died a few years ago, but I just can't let it go!). So if you have any loosy goosy tops or tees the necklace will augment the drapeyness of it all.
Hope you had a marvelous weekend, lady!

  47. Stop it with those bunny gloves! Oh my goodness. I'm having trouble absorbing all their cuteness. And that beef curry looks. so. good.

I never really know how to style multi-strand necklaces, so I, too, will be taking clues from the comments you've received ;) Really loving this outfit, Laura. Your zebra print dress is so much fun. I'm sure it has tons more new potential since coming home with you!
