cake-makin' (and the shabby apple winner)

cake1cake2cake3

This is a gloat post.

I made a cake, you guys. From scratch. AND IT WAS FABULOUS. Though I like baking and cooking, I  stick to easy, low-effort recipes like cookies or muffins. I hate waiting for stuff to cool before I can frost them. I also don't like cleaning up scads of bowls covered in sugar. I also don't really care for sweets all that much to begin with. So yeah, cake-making? A real chore for moi.

But then I remember that I'm married, and my husband really likes sweets. In fact, he INHALES sweets. So every once in a while, whenever I get the motivation and the extra time, I make something grandiose and indulge him. Cherry almond cake with vanilla buttercream frosting kinda indulge.

Do you like baking? Any good recipes you can recommend for a sweets-loving husband?

The winner of the $50 gift card from Shabby Apple is: Entry #72 Erika P!

  3. Oh my word that cake looks insane and the coloring between the cake and the icing is great! I'm a big lover of the cupcake but my husband isn't really a huge cake/sweet fan so I get to eat them all to myself hahah!

  7. That is a beautiful cake, Laura. I'm just an okay baker-- I owe all of my success to the Williams-Sonoma Dessert and Cookies cookbooks!

  10. Your cake it bee-u-tiful :D And I love to bake! I have a blog about it! :D Layer cakes are a pain, though, I agree. I like to make sweet breakfast treats, because I can take all that in the morning, but throughout the day I'm not much for sweets, either. Except ice cream. And pie. Hahahaha.

Cinnamon rolls? I have a yeast bread post coming up...tomorrow!

I mean, I eat ALL OF IT. So in an attempt to stay a little healthier I have been cutting back. This cake looks DELISH though, I hope your hubby enjoyed it :)
