full-time library goer

DSC01594DSC01599DSC01600DSC01597

I have always loved books. Growing up, I devoured encyclopedias and fact books [especially about dinosaurs and space. Both together would be AMAZING], and spent many hours wanting to be like my favorite characters: Robin Hood, Claudia from BSC, or Jo from Little Women. I always felt safe surrounded by books, which is probably a big reason why I keep on going to the library.

From my pile of books, you can tell that right now I'm really big into what a lot of people would call "mind candy," which really bugs me. I'm a huge comics-is-literature advocate because I believe it requires a well-developed sense of critical reading to read not just the dialogue and narrative provided by the writer of the comic, but also the art that accompanies the work.

What's on your summer reading list?

ps. Wanna know what I like to read? I wanna know your literary poison! follow me on Goodreads!

  1. Another BSC fan? Love it!! Currently I'm reading HP and the Sorcerer's Stone on my iPad. Just finished Ocean Beach and The Family Fang. I highly recommend The Family Fang if you're looking for a bizarre laugh. I recommended it to another blogger friend. She and her sister have already devoured it! :)

  3. You are so cute with your sunny little outfit and pile of nerddom! I also believe graphic novels can be considered high literature, and they can do something amazing that typical literature cannot do by involving the artwork (like you say). My last book was called the 19th Wife. It's about polygamy in the 19th century and today :)

  5. Nothing wrong with mind candy, sometimes you need to read something that is fun and give yourself a break from harder stuff!

I love your striped dress and the red shirt with it. The bag and the necklace are super cute little touches! Overall very nice!

  6. Oh my stars, this is so me. I am THE full time library goer at my library and always have been...the librarians by my house growing up used to bring special treats for me because they saw me so often and loved how much I read :) My favs are the classics of literature and historical nonfiction...I'm reading "The American" by Henry James right now, along with "Ideas Have Consequences", "Quo Vadis", and a couple other old books.

  8. I've just got back from the library myself! I seem tobe going back down the thriller crime line of stories again after picking up The Black Dahlia and another Agatha Christie book, oh and borrowing yet another Indian/Curry recipe book - i'm devouring them currently!

  9. I am also a HUGE bibliophile and love few things as much as hitting up the library on a regular basis. I read a lot of academic books (which I enjoy reading) but I also love my classic lit, my graphic novels, and my Game of Thrones. I never have one genre of material that I stick to - I like to read as broadly as I can.

  10. I love reading, too! I always have. I've always liked a wide selection of genres. Lately, I've been into young adult fiction and fantasy. Right now I'm reading A Song of Ice & Fire. It's really good!!

I love your library look, too. =)

I used to love the library but I haven't been to one in years! I just download books now on my Kindle. I love it!

  21. I loved Little Women growing up- what a beautiful story of sisterhood! I also love reading but find it takes me a while to get through a book as I don't give myself more than 20-30 mins a day to read which needs to change! I just found out that there is a public library within walking distance from my house- so excited! Love your flats- adorable!

  22. I used to beg my uncle to drive me to the library when I was little. I'd go crazy checking out books... but one time I didn't think to return them on time and racked up a fine! Oops. I also loved Claudia from BSC!

Working in a bookstore now, I still love the look and feel of an actual book. I'm saddened by the Kindles and such, but admit it is easy to use and carry. These days I have to try hard to find the time to read. I just finished "The Name of the Wind" by Rothfuss on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. Gonna pick up the sequel soon.

I totally added you on Goodreads ;)

  23. My sister is exactly the same. Always loved to read, always has a book or two on her, can read novels in a day....says she's read every book in the library already! I love the fun factor those blue shoes bring to the outfit!

  24. Oh you're so adorable and can totally relate to the bookpile issue when I go to the library. I know I can't read them all by the time I need to bring them back but I just want to take them all home with me. My library has a really good graphics novel section and while I'm still a real novel kind of girl, I do pick up a couple from time to time.

  25. Laura, I envy your hair. I miss braiding my hair. I just went to the salon and had a haircut which means my exphairment is ovah! Haha! It's the same hairstyle but I'm planning to color it. Just plan. I'm full of it. Also, how do you find all the time to read all those books! T.T

  26. Love your heart tote and the tee under the tank dress. It's a perfect summertime look! I'm a library lover too, I'm there pretty much every Saturday picking up something new to read. We're meant to be buddies, I wanted to be Claudia and Jo too when I was a kid! :)

  31. Oh and about book...I'm not a big comic books reader, just because I can't find what I really like. Back in Belgium I use to read manga's, Negima, a little magician. I read also the Astro Boy book... And now I read fiction, just started "Entwined" yesterday, I like it.

  32. I was all about dinosaurs, and space books and even bugs ones too when I was little!! I swear it's because my mom insisted that I never get dirty and made me the ultimate girly girl - so this was my one escape out of that...hehe. Anyhow - favorite outfit of yours to date! Total shoe envy going on right now:) I just love this whole combo of blue and stripes, and cherries. Seriously Laura, you've knocked it out of the park once again! xx Marisa

  33. oh you make me feel so bad...me now is so different to the bookworm I was back as a child. I used to spend so much time in the library and would take great pleasure in trying to finish EVERY book there. I'd be the type to be reading 5 books at the same time! the last thing I've read is probably something by Haruki Murakami. anyway! love your cherry necklace...it's so adorable :D

  36. Ooh, Ooh you're on Goodreads?! EEEK, I must add you now. I love that saying "mind candy", speaking of "mind candy", have you ever seen the movie 'Brain Candy', I find it mildly (more like spicy..er something) amusing. I've been trying to hit up the library as much as I can lately and my brain feels full of stories from the books I've been enjoying and the time spent Wiki'ing things (even though that isn't the same). I love your outfit here, I love pairing stripes with a cherry (that necklace is delicious!) red. I just now noticed that heart print purse! It is so pretty!
