Not one with nature

bodycon dress: Rue 21:: rose cardigan, gold flats: GAP ::

Why, hello there. It's been a while.

My short blogging hiatus can be blamed on a combination of the following: 1.) Lack of sartorial inspiration stemming from the burdensome heat and humidity wave raging in the Midwest; 2.) An explosion of ideas on how to use up all the craft supplies I have hoarded in excess over the years, resulting in a barrage of new items in the shop; 3.)Keeping afloat in the ocean of my thoughts on happiness, self-worth, and other ontological questions that a lot of people regard as useless nonsense, yet they continue to keep me up at night. I wonder if trying to figure out answers that would satisfy me have sunk me into some kind of mild depression, or if that is histrionic of me to even assume. But there it is.

I assure you I'm fine. I haven't locked myself into isolation with only my laptop filled with downloaded audiobooks as company and the LotR trilogy playing in the background on loop. Though that does sound appealing and relaxing.

Last Saturday, B and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. It was a super low-key affair of small town exploring and the consumption of tons of pie. A pretty great way to celebrate, if I say so myself. We tried to walk off all the sweet calories in a nearby park, but we didn't anticipate the hungry hordes of mosquitoes waiting for a sugar-fed meal. I have a billion bites to prove our futile fitness attempt.

These photos have captured my inability to be one with nature: from the untamable mane to the "please stick me in the fridge now" face.

  1. You look great, I love the colour of the dress. When it gets warmer, I never feel like dressing, just sitting at the beach and doing nothing. I'm glad you're ok, I think we all have these moments. I hope things cheer up and get better. Congrats on the wedding anniversary as well, so sweet :)) Have a great week doll x

  3. Happy anniversary! Sorry about the funk, I know how that goes. I have had the hardest time dressing for the wacky weather this spring too. Hugs!

  4. Happy Anniversary Laura! That is wonderful. Awwww, we all need time off from blogging. Glad you enjoyed yourself (doing the things you love), but also glad to see you back here. LOL, I went to the park and the same thing happened to me. I forgot my deep woods bug spray! Not again. Take care.

  6. Happy anniversary! Those questions have been on my mind recently as well; I think it is important to indulge in them sometimes.

  7. If it's any consolation, I think I have a mild existential crisis at least once a week so I think you're thought process is pretty normal. To me at least. And, hey, happy anniversary! I love this photos of you wandering in the woods....

  8. I love the knit cardigan you look great, and I've definitely been there and taking a blog break often gives me even more inspiration when I return, although at the moment my excuse is just life's busyness with changes. Enjoy the week dear. xx/Madison

  10. I love how much your hair stands out against the simple outfit. And oh gosh, mosquitoes are always there to remind us why walks in the park aren't as cute as they may sound...

    Sincerely,

  15. I love this outfit. Not just a tiny bit - but a big honkin' amount. So you wanna hear how I came to even be here? I was just outside, transplanting some tomatillo plants and a jalapeno plant, clearing up dead leaves, digging in dirt, you get the idea. Bugs galore. Bugs, bugs, bugs! And now that every inch of my skin is crawling and I'm too tired to fill my starving belly, I'm sitting down and checking out my Bloglovin'. How could I pass up a blog post titled "Not One With Nature" after that? Hiatuses (is that the plural of hiatus?) are my specialty. I can't cut myself slack to write posts on a regular basis to save my life. Now, I'm going to go brush my hair like crazy in a vain attempt to reassure myself that there aren't actually bugs in my hair. Keep looking super cute! I think I'm going to steal that outfit idea.

  17. I just looked through a bunch of your posts and I love your style! I too struggle to be one with nature. If there's nowhere to plug in a computer, I'm lost haha. Happy anniversary!

  18. Happy Anniversary. You look beautiful in your pictures.

I am not a fan of the recent heat either. I generally do not like when the temperatures get above 80 unless I am spending my time near the beach.

  25. Most of my fitness attempts are futile as well. I never seem to be motivated enough to change that... :P

A low-key celebration complete with pie sounds truly wonderful. Happy Anniversary, again :)

I hope you're feeling better post-funk. I laughed out loud a bit when I saw a comment you already received, "I think I have a mild existential crisis at least once a week" - yep, me too!
