Yesterday, while eating lunch with my husband, a man approached me, introduced himself as a stylist, and asked me how I managed to get my hair to be this light. After our conversation, I thought it would be fun to look back and see the progress of how my hair has changed.

After my first bleaching and toning in September, I could only manage to a slight lift (orange, mostly) and most of that was at the root area. The ends were especially hard to bleach, and you can see that they were still pretty dark. They eventually were just lopped off a couple months later.

I did another major bleaching and toning treatment in November, and as a result, the green has gotten a little brighter, and my ends were not as dark as they were when I did the first treatment. I should have done another bleaching in December/January, but the holidays were too hectic to get anything done, so I skipped that until February where you can tell that every strand is pretty much green already.

Though I'd bleached/treated  my hair lots of times before, I wanted to take it extra slow this time so as to ensure it stays relatively healthy. I also knew I wanted to wear my hair long, so I patiently waited in between bleachings, and I'm proud that I have only inflicted minimal damage to my tresses! Slow and steady. Slow and steady.

  1. I think your hair has looked utterly awesome through the entire process. And I applaud your restraint...I horrifically damage my hair every time I change the color because I don't have the patience to take it slow.

  2. Your hair looks so great, and healthy! I love seeing the progress, at the start it's just a little and then, Boom. All of it!

  3. Okay, I'll admit that I know nothing about coloring hair... so I'm a little confused.. This is what happens when you bleach your hair?? I thought you dyed it with blue hair dye? If this is bleaching... this is crazy!! I really no nothing about hair color.. I've highlight my hair twice in my life and every time I go to get my hair cut, my stylist runs her hands through my hair, sighs, and says, "Ah, virgin hair." Turns out non-colored hair is pretty unusual. :)

  4. I think September and March are my favourite months of your hair...I just adore this colour. You suit it so well too, I've seen others with this shade and it didn't suit them so much, but on you, it's perfect. I love it xx

  7. It looks incredible. I am too lazy and scared to dye my hair. I, too, have hair that is naturally SUPER dark so the whole undertaking seems super overwhelming.

  12. daaang you really did get it really light! congrats on waiting and not destroying your hair- i know a lot of people don't have that kind of patience. I love the mermaid hue you've finally reached- it's so light and pretty. I'm curious, what other colors have you dyed it before?

  24. I'd love to have red again one day... I'd have to do it like you though and bleach gradually over time. And I don't even want to think about how often I'd have to have the color touched up... ugh!

  28. Taking good care of your tresses will pay off in the long run! You should be flattered for being approached by that stylist! I must say I initially took 9 months later to mean something different!
