My ambivalence, your help

GAP dress:: Forever 21 lace top:: Report sandals:: gifted Hobbit door necklace

These days, I've been falling into the routine of waking up alongside the sunrise and delving straight to fulfilling custom orders and job hunting. Two massive cups of potent Earl Grey later, and I'm surprised at how much time I still have left in the day to accomplish other stuff. Perhaps the secret was waking up earlier?

Can we talk about this outfit? I feel all matchy-matchy with the color combination I chose (my hair included) and I'm not quite sure I like that. The dress was an impulse purchase from a couple years back, and I don't know whether I like it or not, or if my ambivalence is reason enough to give it away. The frock has its good points: color, full skirt, and semi-cute neckline. But it also has its not-so-good points: neckline exposes a bit much, and the dress is bulky. I honestly don't know what to do with it. Help?

  1. I think the dress looks really good on you. Could you winterize it with some layering and tights or put a tank under to help with the neckline?

With that being said, my motto lately is if you don't love it, don't keep it.

  2. I really like the dress! What about a tank underneath (maybe a lace one?) to help with the neckline? But I love the color and it doesn't look bulky to me at all...

  3. I think that if every time you wear it, you're pulling at the neckline and thinking well I guess wearing it is a good enough reason to keep it around a bit longer, you should chuck it. Why keep something you don't feel comfortable in?

  4. I think you gorgeous in it actually, but if you don't like it, then you could either customize it in some way or give it away maybe. Maybe add a bit at the top so it doesn't show so much. But, I think you look great. Have a super weekend x

  5. Laura, that dress looks beautiful on you! I love the color and draping at the top. MY SUGGESTION, is when you're tired of it as a dress, convert it to a TOP! Just hack the majority of the bottom off and leave enough that it looks like a flouncy peplum. I think it would look great with slim/tapered white pants or black pants. Add a statement necklace and Voila that's my fashion advice (don't know if it's worth anything but that's what I see.)

  7. Laura, let me tell you this: you like this dress! :p I'd say keep it because it looks good on you and the color looks good on your skin. Maybe you can put your hair up in a high bun so you don't see the matchy matchy factor too much? :)

  8. I always wear a cami or a tank underneath dresses like that especially with one of my favorites

  9. I actually like that your hair matches your dress, but I know what you mean about bulky dresses. I can't stand them. Have you tried removing some of the fabric? Is it lined? Can you take the lining out?

  10. First off, I'd die the dress if I was feeling brave. I'd aim for a navy blue. With your hair color, that'd be super striking. I might go for a different jacket. Maybe something white and a bit more tailored. If you wanted to try changing the structure of the dress, I'd try getting rid of ruching in the bust. I'm not sure how complicated that is though. You were gifted well in the upstairs genetic department (that's the only polite way I can think to say that lol) and that ruching is probably what makes the dress feel so bulky. Have fun! I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

  11. I think you need a different dress in this same color. The color is gorgeous, -especially- with your hair.

  12. I think this outfit is lovely! However, if you are questioning the dress, it's probably time to get rid of it. I always find that when I hold on to pieces like that, they end up sitting in my closet unworn.

  13. OMG I hope you're keeping it! Maybe try a bandeau or something with the neckline? Or a lacy camisole underneath? But it's true - if you feel you won't wear it, let it go!!!

  14. Your boobs look amazing in this! Maybe if you feel its too revealing you could wear a little lace bandeau underneath? I think its really cute though, I like how it looks so... (I don't know how to describe it...) jooji? Like full of body, if you get me haha. xxx

  15. I really like it on you - maybe find a contrasting color in a shawl or sweater or something along those lines? But I think it's quite lovely!

  16. I really like the dress! Personally, I'd mix the colours up a bit, throw in a contrasting red, or go really 'snow white' and add red & yellow to it. I have to say, your hair is utter perfection and it really makes me miss having colourful hair!

  17. I can't manage to get up and get things done, as much as I try. Perhaps the secret is getting dressed? I don't know.

You are right about the dress. I love the color, but the cut unfortunately isn't working.

  18. i was actually going to say i love the dress on you. i like the longer length; combined with the heels, you look taller. the neckline can be pinned if that's an issue, and it doesn't seem too full at all, especially with the sheer top layered over it.

yeah, it's amazing what waking up early does for the day!
