Of cardigans and skirts

As the days get colder, I reach out for my cardigans, only to realize that I don't really have as many as I think I have. This grey cardigan has been in so many posts in just this past month, I'm actually a bit worried that it'll be in tatters before the winter. This weekend, I'm planning on getting a couple more oversized cardis just because they're so easy to wear and pair with either casual or work outfits.

I'm obvs wearing it casual-style in this here look with my selfmade bodycon skirt! Since I couldn't find any plain colored skirts in the length I wanted, I decided to make my own. They're extremely simple to sew, in case you're interested: it's really just a rectangular strip joined in the edges. I added a "waistband" that's just another rectangular strip joined to the skirt. Really, it's quite simple!

  1. Beauty!! I love love cardigans. I used to have a lot of them, but they got too small & I gave them away, but now I really wish I had lots of cardigans again..I will have to remedy that :)) Love your boots :)) x

  2. Cardigans are my favorite in the fall and winter. I love that you made your own skirt. I need to do that sometime. It sounds super easy. Maybe a tutorial?

  7. I live in cardigans in basically every season, but most of mine are the shrunken variety, so I am trying to expand and get some oversized ones to wear with leggings. I also have a tendency to buy crazy colors or prints, which are just not as practical, so I am trying to force myself into getting ones in gray or tan. I got some very cozy long neutral ones at Old Navy (of all places) recently and seriously they are all I wear. You can throw on a t-shirt and a scarf and boots over leggings and you're good to go.

  12. I'm going to find a proper material store here just so I can make one of these skirts! I love this idea. And cardigans are one of my best friends. I'm in a maroon one right now. I have to work really hard not to buy more every time I turn around. This is a great snugly casual look. Fabulous for transition weather.

  15. I recently realized that I have nothing nice to wear for fall this year, so I just went on a shopping binge. It felt so good to spend more than a few dollars here and there and really stock my closet with items for fall and winter. :)

  16. I should study dressmaking or the art of sewing. Love that you decided to make your own skirt, rather than buying one!

  17. Always so impressed that you make so many of your clothes, Laura! If I couldn't find a skirt in the length I wanted, I would just whine about it. So mature of me.
Love those booties too! I wish my casual looked this good!

  18. I like what bit of the tee-shirt you can see poking out under the scarf. I'd love to teach myself to sew someday. To be able to say, 'oh, I can't find what I want in stores, so I'll just MAKE it instead'. Amazing.
