The Culling

It wasn't until I moved to St. Louis that I realized how much stuff I really own. I've already unpacked all my clothes and accessories. And I have them hanging or displayed for easy access, but I find myself neglecting a lot of them. So a few weeks back, I started "The Culling," that is, wearing everything I own and throwing out/giving away what doesn't fit well or work with my aesthetic.

This scarf is one that I just put in the "give away" bin. I received it as a present many years ago, and have used it a handful of times because I'm really not overly fond of the print, texture, and weird pink to yellow ombre-ness. But I tried! I really try to hang on to and incorporate presents into my closet, especially because I know the gift giver has given thought to how that particular item fits into how they perceive me. I'm hoping that whoever finds this scarf will wear it loads of times and love it to bits!

  1. That's a really good plan for culling things...I need to embark upon a similar project.

  2. Good job doll, I am on the same route!! I have a lot in my wardrobe that just doesn't go in with me any more, so someone else should enjoy it. Love your outfit. I hope your week is lush doll xxx

  3. I know what you mean about not realizing how much you have. I am shifting what room I am storing my hanging clothes in as there is no closet in my own room and someone else needs the closet I was previously using. I started taking trips with all my dresses. Then more trips. Then more trips. I was exhausted by the time I was done and that was only my hanging clothes! I started making outfits out of things and hanging them that way. So maybe a sweater over a dress to make it winter appropriate. Nothing crazy, but it has been helping me get dressed quicker and without just wearing jeans and a hoodie on the daily.

  4. You look like a dream. I hate the "creep" factor of stuff. I mean, you clean, organize, clear, and time passes. Suddenly, you realize you have to do it all over again because more stuff has managed to creep into your life and you don't even know where it all came from. It's just there and if you make a whiny observation about it, your husband makes a witty comment about the "laws of entropy" which causes you to roll your eyes and then Oops! you've tripped over something because you were too busy looking at the inside of your own eyelids.

In all seriousness though, you look so incredibly lovely. You did a fantastic job making that scarf work and I completely understand why someone thought of you when picking it out. The color is amazing on you and it's got that lovely gold shimmer to it. I bet whoever gets their mits on it will have loads of fun with it.

  5. Come dress me, seriously, I love your style. People in my life have honestly started making comments about the fact that I'm adding more color into my wardrobe, I'm pretty sure I've been inspired by you.

I know exactly what you mean about realizing how much stuff you have, it took a few months but after moving I realized just how much clothes/shoes/accessories I really have. I have a hard time parting with things, especially if my Dad or Mom bought them for me, I feel bad giving them away. I know it's silly. I've attempted to sell things online but that hasn't really worked out very well for me, I guess ebay isn't as big as it use to be. I do however really need to get rid of some more stuff but what typically happens is I look through the boxes and go "oooh, I should wear that again".

Anyway, you look adorable as always, I love all the pink.

  6. I have been doing the same for few months already and got rid of some stuff already but there are still too much :D.. My prob is that I get fed up so fast! I usually store things in the attic and then I'm super happy to dig out "new" things few years later.. :D So I actually get rid only of things that don't fit at all, or are icky material.. :P
I think your "weird" scarf is really cute tho :) You look great ^^

  7. I also parted with a lot of things I never wear when we moved last month. It was a hassle but really good to do in the long-run. I'm sure that scarf will find a home with the right person!

  8. I never keep things past 2 years, unless I absolutely love it. I donate my old clothes all the time-I just don't like hanging on to things. Weird I know! And I love you in pink girl!

  9. Ugh, I know what you mean. I cleared out a lot of my clothes after bub because A. I couldn't fit into them anymore and B. Why on earth did I need to keep some of them - soooo last season haha.

Plus, I have too many clothes, and need to cull so that the hubby will let me purchase more ^_^

  10. SInce you have lots of cute clothes, I thought I would ask if you have tried a app like Poshmark or one of the others. I started selling on Poshmark about 6 months ago. It's not fab money but it's great if you have nicer or more unique/trendy pieces. I just culled my wardrobe, photographed the pieces I wanted to part with...photographed them to list on the app.. and put them in a duffel at the bottom of my closet. One by one I have sold most of the pieces and made about 400 dollars. It's pretty sweet and not as hard as one would think. It takes a while to get exposure on there but It's great for buying and selling. I am a fan.

  11. I know what you mean about having too much stuff and needing to purge things that don't fit my aesthetic. Maybe when I move again I'll get rid of some stuff!

But anyway, I think you did a nice job incorporating that scarf into an outfit even if it wasn't your favorite. I love your pink blazer so so much and I think it looks perfect with your cute little dress.

  12. Excellent. Yes, this is something that I have done for over a decade really, but only because of my moving so much I could not take too much with me. These last few years have been good for me, cleaning out even more and donating a lot of my clothing to charity. Wishing you a joyous holiday week coming. xx/Madison

  13. That's very considerate; it's something I try to do too. The scarf almost looks shiny in the photos but I can't tell if it's another trick of the colours. Your hair looks great with that side part.
