Combining jewels

I am happy to report that this past weekend was a lot better than the weekend before (and this past week!) I finally was able to get sushi to celebrate my birthday, and if you check out my Instagram feed, you'll see some of the noms that made it to my happy belly. I also was able to catch up on comics and actually finished my first book of 2014. Don't judge: it's gifted mind candy and I kinda, sorta liked it. It's good in that awful-good sort of way. All in all, I had a pretty well-deserved and  relaxing weekend.

This eShakti dress is one that hasn't gotten a lot of wear because I always thought it was a little too dressy for casual outfits. But I have worn in a few times to work and really appreciate the thick, knit fabric especially during the cold months. I've always thought purple and blue looked great together, but never really wore an outfit incorporating the two, especially in jewel hues, and I have to say, I LOVE how it looks!

  4. I, too, love how this looks. Very sophisticated without screaming, "I'm an office-only outfit!" Also, that book looks kind of amusing. My bff and I make fun of the Cat In The Stacks mysteries, but I secretly want to read one someday. This is like that I think, but with a skeleton

  8. Ok, when I saw my bloglovin' notice and you were featured in it in a little mini pic your color combination had me so excited! The dress doesn't look too fancy at all to me. You just look super pretty. It's so inspiring to see fun pairings of color. I'm weird like that. I'm one of those people who watches television shows and notices the outfits. Sometimes, it's just the color pairings that catch my eyes more than anything else. Do you have a tourquoise cardigan or jacket you could try with it too?? I bet your closet is so much fun to be in. I'm so boring in comparison.

I'm glad you finally got your nom nom's. I'm going to run over to the ol' instagram and check out the pic's. The only book I've read so far this year is the wonderful Highway Code. :) Gotta convert my license to a UK one now. So much fun. I'm going to settle for living vicariously through your reading adventures for the mo'. Read good things for me, please? :D

  9. Oh my goodness - your IG feed has been so scrumptious lately, I actually convinced the Mr. to get sushi for dinner the other day when I saw it...haha. I LOVE these jewel tones together. I'm gonna have to break out my magenta tights like yours now and see what jewel tones I have in my closet...really striking Laura!

  14. Fun pops of colour there. I used to have purple tights, but didn't wear them much as didn't have the confidence to pull them off! You look fab as usual :)

  15. Thoughts on this color combo: YES.

  16. If you ever pick up the book, let me just warn you now: It has a lot of whining about how adjuncts are underpaid and overworked. I mean like, HALF the book is just that.

  17. Oh the book was pretty amusing and annoying at the same time. I think that combo is my kryptonite.

  19. Rachel, your comments always make me blush! I do have a turquoise jacket, but never thought to wear it with this dress. I love the neckline and wish I could show if off more often, but right now, it's just too cold! I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to read a lot more. But I'm excited that you get to get your UK license!!! I've always wanted to be able to drive on the left side of the road, though I think I would get really disoriented very quickly...

  23. Thanks, Talitha! I think you look awesome in color! plus, you have such vibrant red hair I can't believe you don't have the confidence to pull off vibrant colors! :)

  24. I think it would be fun to figure out which shade of turquoise would work the best. I love that jacket though. It's such a flattering shape. Oh! Maybe a metallic jacket if you had to go out to dinner or some other night time fun thing? I have the same color tights as you but your brave color choices have inspired me to try my tights with my purple sweater dress. Purple sweater dress, magenta tights, and maybe my tuquoise rain boots for my hike to and from the train in this WONDERFUL English weather? It just sounds fun. :) (The color pairing, not the weather. The weather is just gross.)

I did get disoriented when driving on the left side of the road in the very beginning. Mostly, it was trying to turn right across traffic. My kindle library is slowly building a giant back log. My husband is sort of obsessed with Amazon's Deal's of the Day. Every time he see's something he thinks I'll like, he jumps on it to, "Save money". :D If I'm honest though, he's right. It does save us money. Otherwise I just end up buying books all over the place for a lot more money. I have a weird thing where I must.finish. a book once I've started. I can't do anything else till I've finished. I'm not obsessive at allllll. ;D T

  26. ……………POP! That is the sound of this outfit inspiring one in my mind. Love these saturated jewel tones right next to each other, like fireworks on a first date.
