Winter waffling

My first winter in St. Louis has been...weird, so far. The weather here is so temperamental, I honestly don't even believe the forecasts anymore. One day, it's sunny and in the 50s. The next, it's Dante's Ninth Circle of Hell. This waffling usually doesn't bother me too much, except for the fact that I now have to drive on the highways to get to work everyday. Fellow commuters will (hopefully) understand that just the right mix of snow and wind is enough to discourage any worker, no matter how dedicated they are, from going to work. I'm hoping that the rest of the winter will be mild and ice-less, at least, so I can rest a little bit easy while driving.

So... this red scarf. I have repeatedly resigned and then dug it out of my "to donate" pile multiple times. I decide to give it away because I think it's a little too plain, but then I dig it right back up since I think it adds just the right amount of pop to the monochromatic outfits I seem to wear at least once a week these days. I blame my waffling attitude on this waffling winter weather. And the dearth of waffles in my house.

  1. I say keep the scarf - I mean it looks awesome with this outfit so that's reason enough! The weather here has been a bit nuts lately as well - it's gone from plus 5-8 to minus 18 overnight. Brrr!

  2. We have been having that wishy-washy weather here in CT, too. It was 40 degrees on Saturday and 14 degrees on Sunday (but with windchill it felt like about 4) It's been messing with my sinuses a lot more than normally winters here do. And of course my outfits. Annoying. Hope your weather figures itself out soon!

  3. It has been actually quite nice here lately, but the weather is always fickle here, so it could turn at the drop of a hat. I like the scarf! But I know what you mean. Some items I just can't make my mind up about!

  5. The BBC weather reports drove me enough to stop believing any word the forecaster could ever say. It's not much different here. Although I know when they just utter "snow" it's the best time to avoid going food shopping to avoid the stampede for milk! I dread to look at the forecast for us because of just how cold it is, today it's meant to feel like -23C.

    Chilly times!

  6. I love that scarf! It is a bit plain, but the color and simplicity add the perfect finishing touch to your outfit. We are also hoping for no more ice and snow this winter!

  8. Mmm, waffles. . . Erratic weather is a pain, though.

  9. I think the monochromatic black and white with the red is great. I have a few pieces like that one too where you're not sure if you want to keep it or get rid of it.

  10. This made me laugh b/c I am the same way with clothing. I just pulled out a dress and a cardi from my goodwill pile this week to wear again. I love this layered look and pop of red Laura! It's sweet and simple...one of the best combinations :-)

  11. Dante's Ninth Circle of Hell... haha! The weather's been strange in New York, too. A lot of extremes this season. I'm just hoping for the summer to not be 100 degrees all the time!

  12. Oh my word! The weather, don't even get me started. Dante's 9th circle decided to visit here today. I had on a proper winter raincoat because of the overcast skies and you know...the fact that it's JANURARY. I was sweatin' in places a lady should never be sweating in! I like the scarf but I know what you mean about feeling like it's a bit on the plain side. I have one that's a paler version of yours. I keep it because it's so soft and lovely and when I want one that's more exciting, I wear a patterned one that reminds me of a Picasso painting from his blue period. That way I'm not trapped into plain'dom or busy-ville. :) (Here that? That's the professional touch I can offer you to justify having an even BIGGER wardrobe. :D )

  13. When weather is fickle like it seems to be all over the world, the best is layering. Love your scarf Laura. Have a great week. P.S. Oh I tried to leave a comment earlier, but here goes nothing.

  15. I do love that I don't have to brave the roads and traffic every day for work. On the other hand, living a 3km walk from work means no excuses for snow days! Wishing you fair weather my friend!

  16. Annnnnd now I want waffles. Thanks. ;) Aside from my craving for breakfast goodies, our winter has been exactly the same here, and today I'm feeling it. My immune system can't handle it!

  19. Yeah, the weather's been kind of weird this winter here too. It's either blizzarding or randomly 40-50 degrees. I just want winter to be over!
