Blue Velvet

This past weekend was the first weekend in a while that B and I were either in town or not sick, so all those 48 precious hours were relegated to errand running and house cleaning.  If being sick has ever taught me anything, it’s that I should never get sick because catching up with everything that didn’t get done while I was sick is super sucky.

Take for example the process of donating all the books and clothes I no longer use.  After going through my shelves and closets, I still have to neatly pack everything, haul them in the car, find a place that takes donations, then drop them off. All those steps take loads of hours to complete. Well, it took me loads of hours. Even though I’m much better at letting go of stuff now, there are still some pieces that I have a hard time with. Like this jacket.

I've gone back and forth deciding whether or not to give away this velvet jacket I thrifted a while back. I think I really like how the color looked with my green hair (1, 2), so I clung to it even though it's not really cut all that flatteringly. In the end, I let this blazer go, and hopefully it will find itself in someone's closet and make them all sorts of fuzzy.

  1. Aw this blazer is so cute! Velvet blazers are wonderful things. I agree that if the fit isn't right, it should either get fixed (if possible) or it goes. Hopefully you'll find another velvet blazer that fits better and you can love it forever!

  5. If you don't love it - let it go. That's my policy. I think you did the right thing. I've only kept one thing I don't love on me and well, we talked about that last time. It's just a reminder for me to watch what I bring home.

  6. The blazer is cute, but I do understand if it's not cut right, you did the right thing. I like the whole look actually. It's always difficult to catch up with things when you're sick or even away. :) xx

  7. I do absolutely love that color on you - but fit counts so it sounds like you made the right choice!

  9. I still think the blazer looked cute with this outfit, but the color doesn't pop as much as it did with your green hair. I think you made the right choice letting it go, it did what it needed to do.

  11. Glad you're feeling better after being sick! I love that jacket, but I know what you mean about letting something go so that someone else can make the best use of it.

I usually sort things and pack then patiently wait for the Salvation Army to come pick it up. ;)

  21. It's the color that drew me to it in the first place. Such a unique shade of blue!

  27. Ugh, I hate the actual 'should this stay or should this go' decision-making process. You think, oh I'll just put it back in the closet and decide for sure next season. NO Kat! Decide now. It's easy enough once you've decided to give something away but getting there can be agonizing.
