Summer Goth

It is inevitable that in the midst of all the humidity and sunshine-y heat, I revert to wearing my favorite color. To be fair, I wore this outfit to a gallery opening, and to me, nothing says artsy-chic more than a black on black with a little bit of red splattered around. You feels?

But really, black is my neutral. Some people wear grey or white or brown or even nudes with other colors; I wear black paired with everything else. It just feels right to wear no matter what the temperature is. Even if that means boiling in the summer heat.

I am finally feeling better after being sick a whole week, thanks to the two giant bags (so far) of Ricola and a constant stream of cough syrup and Nyquil. Summer colds/coughs are absolute hell, especially when weekends become recuperating days instead of enjoyment days. But there's no use wailing over soured milk, and last weekend will definitely be avenged by this summer goth!

  3. Black and dark blue are my colors of choice so it's hard for me to not wear either of them, even if my English skin boils in the Midwest heat!

  5. So right-- black is the color for anytime! I end up wearing color in the winter too, maybe it's the idea of "rebelling?"

  6. HELLZ YES. I don't care if I'm boiling in the inside as long as I got my black on.

  9. Good to hear I'm not alone! I also noticed that I have tons of blue which is so unintentional! I guess I never think I pick blue things up too often.

  11. The wearing white thing is something I haven't mastered. I'm too chicken and clumsy for that :)

  12. I like wearing black year-round too. Even if it makes me overheat rather quickly. Love your shoes and bold lips!

    Sincerely,

  13. Wait. You mean black isn't a neutral?? I'm wearing all black right this very moment. :) It's my staple in my wardrobe no matter what the weather or time of year. I think we should band together and through unity - make things right. Declare the colour black, to be the neutral it was born to be. :D

You're so lucky! That top is thrifted?! I'm in looooove with it. You look effortlessly chic.

  14. Glad you're feeling better. I had my summer goth day today. I will never give up black even though I do love colors an prints. My heart (closet?) is big enough for everything.

  15. hahaha! I guess a lot of people don't consider it a "summer" neutral. But we know better, right? :)

This top was a total score. Not only is it thrifted, but it was on "clearance" for $5. I got it in a vintage store, so that's why I pair more. I recently went back to said thrifted store but they had already moved/closed, which made me super duper sad :(

  16. oooo Maybe it was never really a normal thrift store but a magical thrift store. Like one from Narnia or Harry Potter, that you can only find the doorway to when you're in true need. :D

  18. So glad you're feeling better. Being sick sucks, but especially in summer since it's so grossly warm outside. I really enjoy your almost all black outfit here. The red lipstick really pops with this outfit!
