Summer Movies

I have a love/hate relationship with this dress. I swear, it has touched the edge of my give away bin so many times, then I end up stashing it right back into my closet. It's such a confusing dress with the camo-esque print and 3/4 sleeves, and that's probably why I keep it around still.

In more interesting news, I finally had the chance to see Godzilla and X-men: Days of Future Past. It's been a while since I took a trip to the movies, much less movies of my kind of genre! Warning: Some spoilers ahead. Godzilla was mildly disappointing plot-wise, the father/son motif really just all over the place and not quite resolved. The characters were so unrelatable, and I found myself kind of slipping away during the non-kaiju parts. Now, the Godzilla parts were awesome. I don't care if he looked like he had the biggest cankles of all time. Nor do I care that his face was puffy and his head was too small. Godzilla looked FABULOUS and WAS fabulous, except for the time when he was knocked unconscious and had an eye-to-eye moment with Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character, which led me to think that maybe, just maybe, Godzilla was actually the mutated form of his dead mother! Because-- they had a moment!

Warning: some more spoilers. X-men: Days of Future Past was surprisingly good. I'm not a fan of Bryan Singer's X-men movies, so I went in to the theater thinking they would follow along the same vein of cheese, crappy effects, and plot hole-iness. Not to say that this movie was completely devoid of those, but I think the talents of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy really elevated the movie for me. I thought it more a character driven film than action, which fits with the storyline. The sentinels were a huge disappointment, though. They looked unimpressive and non-menacing!

I'm not really keeping tabs on what other movies are coming out in the summer and have no plans to see anything else, save one. I am so looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy coming out in August. Like, edge of my seat kind of excited! Rocket Raccoon!

  2. I really like the patterns. This is something I usually like in my spring/summer dresses. And the hair looks perfect! <3
I was tempted to see Malificient this weekend but passed. Nowadays I'm much more into Roku offerings and smaller indie movies...but waiting patiently for a good summer movie that is worthwhile my trip to the theatre. ;)

  7. Gurl, I think my whole danged wardrobe is sitting on the edge of my give away bin. All I've been wearing every day are t-shirts and leggings and none of my shirts are cute enough to get away that. There is 1 dress. Count it again. 1.Dress. I wear on a regular basis out of a stupid # of dresses. My relationship with clothes is sliding into a weird love/hate relationship. Don't be surprised if one of these days I end up a nudist out of sheer frustration.

I saw the X-Men movie on Sunday. I liked it. It did make me wonder what they're going to do now from here or whether or not they're just going to reboot the whole series. I can't bring myself to see Godzilla. I think my expectations are way too high and it would just automatically fail. Then I'd resent having spent the money and time to see it and I'd go to a dark mental place. One where I'd throw popcorn and slurs alike at anyone associated with the thing. And that sounds like a whole lot of effort. So I'm definitely skipping it. :)

So in regards to the dress, here were my thoughts. "Oh look, how cute. She's got so much more style cajones than myself. I'm so boring about patterns." And then I read how you felt about the dress and I was all, "Oooohh yeah. I've got one of those. And it's patterned. And I hold on to it for some inexplicable reason and can't remember the actual last time I wore it. Except that it looks good on me when I try it on despite the fact that I worry I look like a DVF wanna-be from the 70's without the great body." Yours is adorable on you but if you bin yours, I'll bin mine. Solidarity sistah! :D

  8. Man I always seem to come back to a new background! haha
Anyhoodle, the dress is really nice, glad you kept it as it seems quite unique with the print.
And movies....yeah I don't know what they are anymore :) I wanted to watch Wolf of Wallstreet at the movies and seeing as I have a kid now, I might be able to watch it when he's 1 haha. I skimmed over your spoilers as I may (in the next year or so) actually watch them ^_^

  11. Thank you, Lena! I definitely love love love indies, but usually wait until those come out on DVD or online. In the summer, I go for the action movies! Especially super hero ones ;)

  17. I know the feeling, lady! I think for me it's because my style is changing, and I can't find clothes that capture exactly what I'm wanting (without ripping my bank account to shreds) :( I will let you know if and when I bin this dress, especially because I feel like it's getting too short for my tastes.

Glad to hear you liked the Xmen. I thought it was decent, and I'd probably watch it again and buy the DVD. Then again, I am such an Xmen freak. Dude, if you love Godzilla, do NOT watch the movie in the theater. I would say let some time pass and rent it later on. FREALZ.

  18. I don't even know if I thought of that print as camo. I thought it was more classy paint splatter-ish.

So I want to see the new X-Men movie a lot, but I have to wait for Redbox. I never get to actually go to the movies because no one will go to things I want. My life is hard.

  19. I thought it was pretty good, although I wish the writing had been a bit stronger. Angelina Jolie was amazing, though, and the special effects/cinematography were great, too.

  20. Neither of those movies tempted me...I haven't been keeping track, either. Like Lena, I'm waiting for something that piques my interest :D
