Another reason why I was anxious to visit St. Charles was to visit the casino. I've never ever stepped in one before, not being the gambling sort of gal, but I thought, what the heck? especially since B and I were celebrating. So after a full morning of walking through Main Street, we made our way to the Ameristar Casino.
Yes, we went on a Monday afternoon. And yes, there were lots of old people in there already. Yes, the lights, the high ceilings, and ornate decor make it look swanky, but I could hardly breathe since it was extremely cigarette smoky inside. The smoking section makes up a small part of the casino, but that shit seeps into everything. It took a long shower to feel clean again.
But onto them stories. Being extremely unfamiliar with any casino table games, I thought I'd stick with the slots. I was surprised at the sheer amount of machines and the variety of "themes" there were. Want something with princesses on it? Or maybe wizards? Egyptian lore, perhaps? Or is Greek mythology more your thing? They have a game for that.
B got tired of not lucking out with the slots, so he moved onto the tables. Spoiler: he lost all the monies he brought. I kept on with the slots, which kept me occupied for a few hours. I almost forgot about the cigarette smoke.
On my first go, I actually won $30, and I used that to play the rest of the time I was there. I lost everything in the end, but I only spent $20 for almost a whole afternoon of mild amusement AND got to pop my casino cherry. Not bad, methinks!
