Casino Stories

Another reason why I was anxious to visit St. Charles was to visit the casino. I've never ever stepped in one before, not being the gambling sort of gal, but I thought, what the heck? especially since B and I were celebrating. So after a full morning of walking through Main Street, we made our way to the Ameristar Casino.
Yes, we went on a Monday afternoon. And yes, there were lots of old people in there already. Yes, the lights, the high ceilings, and ornate decor make it look swanky, but I could hardly breathe since it was extremely cigarette smoky inside. The smoking section makes up a small part of the casino, but that shit seeps into everything. It took a long shower to feel clean again.
But onto them stories. Being extremely unfamiliar with any casino table games, I thought I'd stick with the slots. I was surprised at the sheer amount of machines and the variety of "themes" there were. Want something with princesses on it? Or maybe wizards? Egyptian lore, perhaps? Or is Greek mythology more your thing? They have a game for that.
B got tired of not lucking out with the slots, so he moved onto the tables. Spoiler: he lost all the monies he brought. I kept on with the slots, which kept me occupied for a few hours. I almost forgot about the cigarette smoke.
On my first go, I actually won $30, and I used that to play the rest of the time I was there. I lost everything in the end, but I only spent $20 for almost a whole afternoon of mild amusement AND got to pop my casino cherry. Not bad, methinks!

  1. All the smoke is a really crappy part of the casino but aside from that I always have a good time when I go. Back in Connecticut some friends and I would take a little road trip out to Mohegan Sun every few months and one time, for a friend's birthday, we all went in on some hotel rooms and stayed there. The games are fun, the people watching can't be beat, and the glitzy swankiness is pretty awesome too!

  6. That place is really pretty. We have a big casino on the edge of the French Quarter and a few in outlying areas on water. I don't know why they have to be on water. I'm like you with the smoke. It's awful and gets into everything but I do enjoy a few slot machines. We used to park at the casino in the quarter and then play for 30 minutes with our rewards cards to get the parking comped. Brilliant and free drinks!

  7. I've never been to a casino either! Some people just love going, but I don't think I'd like it much. Just not something that's on my bucket list!

  9. We went to a casino for our 18th birthday because back then it was the thing to do. We haven't been since, but I seem to remember being excited to win back about half of what I spent! I'd love to go to one somewhere other than MN, lol.

  10. Casinos slightly terrify me as I'm afraid I'd bankrupt myself (no self control!) but this looks SO much fun!

  11. These aren't on my list, either, but I'm glad you had fun. Indoor smoking is still legal in places??? Sheesh.

  13. I love casinos, especially the slots. $20 spent isn't bad at all. I've been out of the blogging world for a while, but I've kept up with your awesome posts!

  14. Hey! That's exactly what it was like for me when I went into my first Casino. Fairly addictive to me if I'm honest. But, it was a good lesson. I must stay away from casino's and the like. I'd become a caricature of a sweaty addicted gambler, totally out of control with their eyes bugging out of their head as they bet their last dime on something that was sure to fail if I allowed myself to go back. You guys sure did some fun stuff!
